What, no one remembers when Nixon declared "no standard time this year"?

Just another politician.

A simple update to the LOCALS database, long since put in with a simple command line "apt-get upgrade". Thank you, Debian developers.

Well, DST is a pet peeve of mine, and I think it should it be abolished.

It is an artificial construct that denies natural reality, and is inherently broken, therefor.

It is akin to legislative proposals that pi be set equal to 3.

For more info and a starting point on the issue please see "End Daylight Saving Time" at http://www.standardtime.com/.

I agree with Aladdin. Daylight Savings Time is somewhat like adjusting the ship's compass instead of changing the ship's course. As a resident of Arizona I can tell you that all the bad stories about not using DST are untrue. We have just as much daylight as we ever did. Maybe people should wake up earlier.

I will do what I always do when the DST time change occurs. Relax.

The DST thing really only helps the states north of the old Mason-Dixon line. I know that growing up in Iowa, it did make a difference - without DST, going to school at 07.30 am would require being in the dark. Of course, back then, you didn't have lights on all the time anyway. It did help with the electric bill.

But here in FL, because of the southern latitude, DST doesn't make much of a difference with availability of light.

Local time is a cultural construct. It determines when you and other folk get up and go to bed. It does not affect UTC. If shifting local time relative to UTC improves the general lifestyle then do it. Otherwise don't. Simple really.

Richo, what you describe is ... is .... ANARCHY! AAAAAA!

But really, being an anarchist, I'm all for it.

Government legislates the time? Might as well try to legislate what direction Earth rotates.

Politicians are busy, always busy, trying to justify their existence. May they all rot in hell.

My favourite thing with DST is its interference with train schedules. During one time change all trains need to stop for an hour so they won't be an hour early. But what during the other change? Teleportation? Legally-enforced bad quality of service? ;) One could argue that trains could go a bit faster for some time to regain that hour, but in Poland it's just not safe to go faster than normal with this sorry state of rails here...
