FreeNX is supposed to be all great and wonderful, but there is often a version gap between the client and server that renders it unusable. The server is open source, but it depends on NoMachine's closed, proprietary client. When NoMachine updates the client, they remove older versions from their download site. The current FreeNX server is supposed to work with the new NoMachine clients; I haven't had a chance to try it yet. This site kindly archives older clients, but who knows for how long: http://www.industrial-statistics.com/info/nxclients?IndStats... When it works, it's really nice. I wish there were an open source client. I wish I were an ace coder so I could write one. I wish I had a pony. No, wait, I have a horse, don't need a pony. I wish beer for breakfast did not slow the rest of the day to a crawl. |

It's good to hear I'm not the only one with this problem. I was afraid I just didn't know what I was doing. It's always seemed like a silly thing to have to worry about using a proprietary client with a free server. It's not really a free "solution". Nonetheless, it is good technology. > I have a horse Good luck with that. I guess we all have our own preferences. |

"...it's good to hear I'm not the only one with this problem. I was afraid I just didn't know what I was doing." Shoot...I thought I was going to be the THIRD one to admit slamming down the REAL breakfast of champions. Second, third...not much difference I guess. h |
