I get an awful lot of, "Gee, aren't they really all the same? I see x vulnerabilities in IE and x vulnerabilities in Firefox", especially from non-technical people. And you know what? I don't really blame them. If you don't understand computing beyond a user level, how can you really understand the difference between serious and not-so-serious vulnerabilities? This "your door was open for 284 days vs 9 days" approach is pretty easy to grasp. |

I have to admit that I posted this knowing I would bring this up in conversation at work. I work in a very M$ centric place. I can't help it and to their credit, most of the people I work with just don't know any better. They are not ignorant people, they are just not 'up' on all of the things that "we" know about. I have told my boss about what I do at LXer and he has been very cool about it, I brought it up with him today and while I was talking about it he came to LXer and checked out the article. I have to admit, watching my boss surf to LXer and see the article for himself was a very gratifying experience for me. When I said, "Did you know that IE users were at risk for 284 days versus 9 days for FF users?", he said "Excuse Me?" :-) |
