Great news for libraries

Georgia Public Library Service has really caught the cluetrain. I've worked in public libraries all of my professional life and have had first-hand experience in dealing with proprietary automated library systems. It is soooo frustrating to try to get enhancement requests implemented, especially when you know the coding would be dead simple. I remember waiting close to 2 years for one code change! Give me a break. Good for GPLS for forging ahead with their own system and GPLing the code. I'm also happy to hear they are working on the Acquisitions Module (ordering, receiving, and paying for books, periodicals, dvds, etc.). Evergreen will turn all the proprietary library automated systems on their ear. |
