Does that include an upgrade to 4 when it comes available? For what it's worth, while Xandros is not to the liking of many hard(ish)core Linux users like myself, it's a fabulous introduction to the world of GNU/Linux. Very nice decision.

The stinkbug ploy?

In the insect world there is an bug which drive everyone away with its horrible stench. Why MS would choose to use this role model to promote sales is beyond me. Perhaps the strain of dealing with the Linux community has pushed the already unstable minds at MS over the edge. At this rate, we can soon expect everyone with any sense to reject the MS insanity.

'Bout time, but large numbers will refuse just because they fear change. Many of these are IT professionals. One of my coworkers doesn't want Linux to succeed because "I don't want to have to learn something new." Very nice, eh? Maybe he's just in the wrong business.

Well, if he doesn't want to learn something new, he may as well crawl into his grave now. When you stop learning new things, you're dead, literally or figuratively.

Agreed. I'm glad I learned that before I was dead, literally.

It would appear that many at MS have been dead for some time... Vista Zombie Edition anyone?

Sure, just install the spyware.

that is a disease that is infested at my work too. "got to keep windows that is all we know".

most of them have paper mcse and couldn't do anything on the command line if their life depended on it. you can thank microsoft for that - lets pass a bunch of people just to get them out there and be salesman for us - they won't know what they are doing and will rely on us for everything just to keep their jobs.

Or is that they know they being a Windows care-taker is more profitable than being a Linux admin? I mean, it seems like you need fewer sysadmins to run Linux than for Windows. I think the "don't wanna learn anything new" line is a euphemism for job security.

There was a job advertised for a Solaris admin in the local vicinity for $75/hour. You ain't gonna see that for an MCSE. While it's not Linux, it's a lot closer to that than to Windows. Fewer sysadmins might be needed, but they get paid more on average. As Linux picks up in popularity, there will be increased demand. Better to have that knowledge up front than have to try playing catchup.

My friend is very smart, and has tried Mepis, Opensuse, and FreeBSD. But he likes some of his Windows programs and almost had enough of Microsoft's ****** that article just pushed him over the edge.

How many more will it push over the edge?

That's the tough part. Now the Choir has the songbook, we need to sing on the streets, not the churches. Getting this type of material posted in pro-MS websites can be tough. Anyone talk to Scot Finnie about this for publication. I know Julia (teacher) is a big part of his website. Seeing if he publishes it and his response to it might make my point for me. I am Penguin-non-grata there, so any attempt by me will be answered with a more than unfriendly response. At least that is the past response from them.

Oh, and you might check out usnews.com. They had a SCALDING review of Zune. Ain't everyone on the MS bandwagon anymore.
