what is the point of this story? the only problem with IE mentioned in this article is the fact that in IE7 you can not block changing the users default homepage.

firefox does not allow blocking this either. (ok, you could change the source, but then you would not be able to autoinstall firefox updates either)

and also, it's not like the user could not get around that by starting the browser by clicking on a desktop-link to the homepage of choice thereby circumventing the default.

in other words, this story is not only pointless, it also has no relevance to a comparison to firefox (which would be the only reason why it should be posted on lxer. just because someone is saying something bad about IE or windows does not make it relevant for lxer, it should at least have some merit to it as well)

there is nothing to see here, move along!

greetings, eMBee.

Windows sucks.

IE7 sucks.

However, that's not really the point. I have to agree with eMBee, this is a rather pointless story. And IE7 is a rather pointless "critical" update.

Windows? What is this 'Windows' you speak of? Isn't that a Mac emulator?

"IE7 is a rather pointless "critical" update."

I disagree, I think most website designers, are really glad it's coming, if only for full png support (finally) and better support for css (though still not perfect). I hate having to do special hacks to accommodate IE that every other browser has no problem with. All I can say is it's about time.

IE7 is still full of CSS bugs that need to be worked around. And to top it off, they fixed a couple of parser bugs (e.g. the * html hack) that kill some of out hacks, but didn't fix the bugs that we used to work around.

IE7 is as dumb as IE6. It still used the "hasLayout" magic property and it still doesn't work. MS needs to scrap their entire HTML engine and build a new one following W3C specs from the ground up.

You mean - follow Mozilla... again? ;)

I for one wouldn't mind at all if MS simply took Gecko to build IE8. As long as they release the result under GPL/MPL I'd be happy!
