From the article: "Several Oracle employees are Linux mainline maintainers." News to me. I must have missed the @oracle.com addresses the times I glanced over kernel trap. "Currently, Red Hat only provides bug fixes for the latest version of its software." AFIAK, this is a flat out lie. Now, the fact that we own about 40 shares of Red Hat (which just lost about 1/3 of their value) may have something to do with my low opinion of Oracle's actions, but I'd like to think I can overlook that in evaluating their offering. The simple fact is, if you run an Oracle database on Red Hat, you'll probably want Oracle's support instead. Otherwise, you're better off sticking with Red Hat. |
