xv still works like a charm for screenshots - after 12 years I haven't found anything better, although I've used the gnome or kde screenshot apps on occasion.

If you use KDE, there is no purpose in fooling with anything other than ksnapshot. It really does everything. The article's comment that it doesn't allow image editing is just plain lame, as that's really outside the parameters of what any screenshot app should do. If you need to edit, of course you're going to do it in gimp.

I've taken to using scrot for my occasional screenshots. Though I haven't really played with many others.

The author sounds like a Winbloze fanboy trolling about his favorite shareware, closed-source apps. What a loser.
