yeah, I sort of liked the nasty banter between Reiser and the kernel devs. It was good reading. Is it okay to wonder what's going to happen to Reiser4? |

For the finest in tasteless jokes, see the /. thread, http://yro.slashdot.org/yro/06/10/11/0142216.shtml The future of ReiserFS was already in question: http://linux.wordpress.com/2006/09/27/suse-102-ditching-reis... "ReiserFS has a small and shrinking development community. Right now, the only developers really working with ReiserFS are Chris Mason, Jan Kara (internally), a rotating member of Hans Reiser’s team, and myself." edit: sorry for the dupes. me trigger finger is extra-twitchy today. |

Hans has a history as a brilliant, mercurial and difficult personality in the development community. As such, I think none of use are really surprised. Still, lets hope that our worst thoughts are not reality. He's accused, and not yet convicted. We also have to remember that reiserfs3 is not maintained by Hans and hasn't been for years. Just because it 'may' have been developed by a murder dosn't mean it isn't a good fs, or that we should abhor it. Suse is now looking for another fs, but that's because of scalability issues, and, has nothing to do with the viability of reiserfs3, or, Hans' current personal fiasco. As for reiser4, we may never see a final stable product adapted. The project has been plagued with problems, some technical, but, many of them caused by Hans' attitude, and, acceptance of that fs for inclusion was far from certain, even before all this came down. |
