personally I would rather have an ODF plugin for firefox for a read only ODF documents in a web page.

sort of like the PDF plugins.

Open Office though is in need of a major rewrite. It's almost as bad as Xfree86 was. At least the people are nicer.

I have to agree with that assessment. It also needs a major interface re-design. Right now, It's inefficient and butt ugly. Plugins can wait.

I still prefer the old 5.2 integrated interface. I actually preferred that level of integration, but that's just me.

Maybe not, I hear the same from a lot of people. I',m now using Abiword for most of my new documents for exactly that reason. Still, I find I occasionally need something from OO, so I still have a copy on the machine :(

I guess I'm the oddball. I think OOo, despite its stupid name, is a powerhouse than run rings around ms office, and especially ms word. It has a different way of doing things, and the documentation and forums aren't exactly helpful, but there are a couple of excellent books out in dead-tree land. My one wish is a modular installation- why should a user have to download the entire suite when they only want a word processor, or a spreadsheet, or whatever.

And I still hate Java.

For what it's worth, I wouldn't dispute that... Feeble praise indeed.

Having published a book in OOo, I definitely prefer it to MSO. Between paragraph and character styles, and the document navigator, I'm a pretty big OOo fan. Wouldn't complain if it did load a little faster, but load speed is not my big complaint. Just give me back my old interface. :-)

Lol, with minor changes in Linux history, we might all be running WordPerfect...

jimf: You might just have a point there. I might still be sold on WordPerfect, too. Who knows? Not now, of course.
