If you read the (Dutch) comments you'll also see some more interesting numbers that reveal some of MS's pricing scheme. The municipality of Groningen has about 3650 PC's. The 330.000 euro is the cost they save on prolonging the office contracts through the Software Assurance program. That's about 90 euro's per office installation per year. A similar SA contract for Windows costs 135.000 euro, or 37 euro per seat per year. This is for extending the existing SA contract. New SA contracts are E 205.000 for Windows (E 56 per seat) and E 633.000 for Office (E 173 per seat). It doesn't say if these increased costs are for every year or only for the first year. I presume for every year. Licensing the software without SA contract would be E 577.000 for Windows (E 158 per seat) and E 1.405.000 for Office (E 384 per seat). This would be a once-off cost. |

Interesting. I have some numbers from South Korea, but I can't access them before kdepim is compiled (again). Will let you know when I have them. |

Nope, can't find hard numbers, but did find this old one: http://times.hankooki.com/lpage/tech/200509/kt20050912203935... It tells about a bank (Hana) which saved a lot of money by installing both MS Office and Haancom Office. This way they could stop using MS Office rather easily. The article also tells Haancom Office is 5 times cheaper than MS Office. |
