The headline says "HP to provide Linux laptops..."

The body says "HP say they have no plans to do such a thing"

And the link goes to a page with no content.

What gives?

I unposted the story. Please ignore this post.

I didn't read it, but my impression was that they were going to offer SUSE Linux *certified* laptops, but had no plans to do Linux preinstalls.

sbergman27:

Exactly. The headline was correct, the link worked when I posted it, and my "half a loaf" comment referred to their certification of the hardware without preloading.

[edited to add:]

Just checked the link -- it yields a search box and "Sorry, no posts matched your criteria." My guess is that someone unposted the comment there, because of the unclear headline.

Found it, but it's 'old' news:

"UPDATE: HP To Certify Novell SUSE Linux For Some Systems"

" By Edward F. Moltzen, CRN 10:54 AM EDT Tue. Jun. 20, 2006"

That is a less-confusing headline, at least.

Cool. It was a very promising lead. seeing as we's all waiting for a big company to step forward in this way. The more publicity they get for such moves the better.

Even if we do know why the mantra "...but will stop short of actually shipping with..." keeps appearing, at least they're taking SuSE seriously. Good news for Novell.

I've had to change my opinion on SuSE over the last few days. I'm glad to say it's changed to a much more positive one.
