To me, the surest sign of egomania is the confident assertion that anyone daring to differ cannot possibly understand the situation.

The author states:

I first met Nick at Linuxworld 2000 where he served as moderator of the Geek Bowl. Whatever things may be true of Nick, failing to understand the basics of free software philosophy is not among them.
