Nicer would be for the "basic" functionality, like CDs or the like to be in a seperate BIOS, either also flashable or non-flashable (though the later would be harder probably to deal with bugs, patches, etc.) Then if something goes wrong trying to flash all the major bits of the machines current BIOS, enough of it is still around to try again. In other words, make all the added features "modules" tied into the basic on that you can't screw up as easilly, or at all.

I have heard recent stories of damn stupid BIOS designs, like the DELL ones that prevent you from changing processor settings, so you can't upgrade the processor, and is rumored to prevent you from flashing over it either to fix it...
