For example, still base Star Office upon specific release of OOo, and add to the core whatever they want. For some it might make skittish corporate types (and even some users) a bit more comfortable. They would view it as a product backed by another company they think they can sue, Despite that illusory option having being negated by agreeing to the shrink wrap license, they may feel more secure. In any case, Open Office itself should be released as an independent entity to entice a broader base of developers, even from opposing corporations e.g. IBM. The rest should follow. And later, if Star Office should tank it can become all OOo for everyone. |
