Even the dear old ancient Slackware I first started on included cdrecord. Every version of Mac OS X likewise.

So why didn't the author cast this as an MS-Windows-specific handicap?

Maybe the author should actually try to learn what he's talking about before complaining about it. ISO burnint is hardly an issue specific to Linux CDs. I mean honestly, if you're too much of a "novice" to burn a CD properly, ubuntu will send you one, FOR FREE. My real question is what the hell this guy is doing writing articles for a supposed IT news site.

The reality of the situation nowadays is that if you can't install linux on a blank hard drive, then you won't be able to install windows. Don't even think of trying to install windows onto a dual-boot, it just won't happen.
