Thanks for responding. I understand what you are saying. It is good that you give customers the source code and it is also good that you use FOSS in your solution since it cuts your costs and lets you charge the customer less.

I still think this would be a good area for a "traditional" open soruce project. There are many, many home-grown systems out there, so it is not like people can't do it. They would get a lot more out of it if they collaborated.
