On Windows NT

Windows NT early family was written by an excellent operating system writer (ex RSX11-M and a few others). The original design goal was for clear seperation of the kernel from all other components. NT4 started the downward slide because of perceived performance deltas between the other windows products resulting in breaking down the original barriers that Dave had architected. Linux and most unix systems have always maintained the seperation. My biggest fear is that M$ will start exercising it's portfolio of patents such as they are doing with FAT and bog the open source development down in endless litigation. Best regards tg |
