I read the 3rd edition: great book, suitable even for a (committed) absolute linux newbie.

The Linux Documentation Project has the best online books on Linux. O'Reilly's Running Linux is the best dead tree book. Period.

PS It's expensive though.

List price is a bit dear, but how many things return so much value?

Agreed.

This book (but this is typical of all O'Reilly efforts, IMHO) is also nicely edited and one can immediately understand that a lot of work went into it, unlike so many IT books.

And this costs money.
