Microsoft stands and falls as much on their dealers, dealers, dealers for getting product into customers' hands as it does on developers, developers, developers to create software shackled to MS-Windows in the first place, but seem to have forgotten that particular mantra. I suspect that their next mantra is going to be "damn, damn, damn" as Microsoft slowly morphs into a corporate Marie Celeste.

If said dealers, dealers, dealers see the writing on the wall, sight along the dotted line, put two and two together and generally wallow in predictive cliches, then they're going to (finally) realise that their own demise is simply a matter of time, and start abandoning Bill's ghost-ship-to-be in droves real soon now.

This bodes well for Linux, and consequently for everything else out there (even Macs) since a product becomes much, much easier to port once it's survived the big first step: being unbound from MS-Windows. The dealers, dealers, dealers are going to want to sell other things, which will result in them asking the developers, developers, developers for non-MS-Windows versions of their applications.
