The RCC defines "peace" in so many ways to mean "at peace with us". Everything is judged relative to the church. Protestants will be "at peace" with the RCC when they accept all of her doctrines, or IOW when they are no longer protesting, no longer Protestants. Atheists will be "at peace" with the RCC when they fully accept the supreme authority of the Pope (and the current Pope is (or was) also the head of the Inquisition, so presently it may not be a good time to be an Atheist).

It has also been said of the RCC for many hundreds of years that she is "a lamb in adversity, a fox when in equality, and a tiger when in the ascendancy".

Microsoft are no different -- except clumsier; they haven't had two and a half millennia to refine their techniques. If Microsoft are being friendly, it is a sure sign that they regard their corporate self as being in adversity or at best equality. In ascendancy, they'll fire their MVPs again. You just watch. (-:
