One explanation might be that people go to windows Update and then that process resets the default browser to IE. Just a thought |

Bjorn, it's a generous thought. We may need to do our own survey. |

I don't believe it either. If its true they ran the wrong headline. A more appropriate one is "Running Back Into the Burning Barn: IE Share Grows" |

I wish they published where the numbers came from, but one thing occurs to me... Note that both IE and Safari rose in September. One thing that happens in September is -- A new school year. A new school year means new computers and new computer users. New computers will start out with whatever they came with. Let's see what the months ahead bring. |

I know a bit about taking measurements. Moreover, I happen to know the difference between precision and accuracy. Furthermore, I know a bit about trying to measure site usage statistics. Finally, without a clear cut definition of the assumptions used, the origin of the sources and a bit about the scatter; the numbers listed are more akin to a sideshow barker perpetrating a fraud. Perhaps the inanity from /. says it best: "move on, nothing to see here". |
