Two days ago I ordered a new PC from Monach Computers. http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv

No Windows (+ $89 for XP Home. +150 for XP Prof.), AMD Athlon 64 (not available from Dell at any price). Better stuff at a decent price. What is not to like? Screw Dell!

Yesterday I bought a wireless ethernet card, it requires Windows.

What's the law say about that?

Ndiswrapper loading the windows drivers would probably solve the wireless card problem.

Although i won't be buying another Belkin card ever again due to their lack of linux support, its gonna be linksys from now on.

"Why bother with Dell?", "Screw Dell!"

Some time ago, there used to be a company called Digital. They believed that a good product will sell itself without any need for sleazy marketing. So, they created great OS and excellent hardware. Due to sleazy marketing by competetors, Digital was ripped apart and was no more a company. It was a big mistake by IT professionals for allowing it to happen.

Are we going to repeat the same mistake with HP? I hope not. Support HP who supports Linux by offering it on all their desktops and servers.

You know the answer to that: It doesn't say anything.

That's the point. Travel back to the IBM and Bell Systems cases and we had regulations about hardware. Doesn't the presence of a monopoly change the rules?

For whom, though?

How do we legally justify forcing the maker of that card support something other than Windows?

I don't know who it is, I don't know if they are a mom 'n pop manufacturer or someone with a serious R&D staff, but the question stands. Why should they, not convicted of anything, not be allowed to choose their target market?
