Webmin is OK, but perl can be an issue

I use Webmin from time to time on a couple of Rackspace servers I manage. The interface is nicely done and there are a lot of modules. On most servers, though, I use the command line. I don't want to start a flame war, but I don't want to base my system admin tool on Perl. There is a lot great stuff written in Perl, but I find it clunky to manage all the modules if I have to install it on a clean system or do an upgrade. I would hate up upgrade my Perl version only to find that half of the Webmin modules stopped working. I've spent hours tracking down and installing obscure modules to try out some new system written in Perl. Even for text chunking, I prefer bash and awk. But I'm drifting off topic. Webmin can be a useful admin tool. |
