It is "stupid" to say it is the desktop, it is the applications "stupid". People use applications not computers and not desktops. If the computer doesn't have the applications that users needs, they will not need the computer. What good is it for any way? In the enterprise, Thin clients and browser based applications are becoming more and more popular; That is making desktops much less important and eventually will disapprear, although not totaly. Again, it is the applications not the desktops. |

Abe - This may be little more than a semantic quibble. In Unix land, we understand the desktop as an entity distinct from the OS and from the applications. A non-technical user is unlikely to care about such distinctions, considering desktop to be those things he or she touches to get things done. In that sense, it really is about the desktop, regardless of the particular piece of technology being touched. |

dinotrac - agreed the user could (probably) care less about the distinction, however, most users know the internet is different. Hence, it is the tool they are using that has their attention, a.k.a. the apps. |
