OS/2 is an amazing OS which has been politically stunted almost since its inception. If it were to be released to open source it could still supply a very powerful desktop OS that is inferior to none. My take is that, for whatever reason, IBM is terrified at the thought of OS/2 going open source and will therefore never cut it loose. |

jimf -- Can they even cut it loose? Don't forget that Microsoft was their primary partner in developing OS/2. IBM may not have the legal rights to simply open all of it up.; |

By the time you get to warp (v3) , all of the joint code was supposedly out of OS/2. I fail to see how this would be much of a real legal hindrance. Still, Bill's outfit has been known to make threats, even when they have no real substance to work with. You did make me go back to the history... http://www.os2bbs.com/os2news/OS2History.html . Oh my... 1994 ... time does fly :) |
