Looks like this would be handy to plug into a server's serial port in order to get console access over the network. (Though the machine's BIOS stuff wouldn't be accessible.)

Uh... actually if you have a real server, even the BIOS will be available over the serial port (a real server being a HP, Dell, Supermicro, etc).

We use Cyclades servers for that. Cheaper if you have a whole lot of ports.
