I find myself agreeing with M$

"We still think free choice is best for companies, the individuals and the government," said Luiz Moncau, Microsoft's marketing director in Brazil. I agree 100% and I am in the market for a new computer. Where can I buy one *without* Windows installed on it? At least 90% of the computer market will not sell me a box w/o Windows. I guess my "free choice" is limited by M$. Ironic, isn't it, how M$ squeals like a stuck pig when the shoe is on the other foot. Well, Monarch Computer will be happy to sell me a computer with no OS installed. |

There are lots of places where you can get PCs with no OS. I always recommend CyberPower http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/ but you have a number of places to choose from. |

Everybody make sure you realize a big point. This was big news two years ago but it got drowned out by Darl 'talking out my heifer's arse' mcbride. I am glad a mainstream public has picked up on it. better late than never for good news. |

A lot of big names will sell you a Linux computer... Dell will and you can buy a whiebox from Walmart with either no OS or Linux. |

I never liked Dell. Sleazy and deciving. In my opinion, they are no FOSS supporters although they claim to be. HP on the other hand offers the best selection of desktop/server computers for Linux. My friend & I bought two machines couple years ago and still running great with no problems what so ever. they have new models that are very nice and reasonably priced. Check this link and compare. http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF02d/12454-64287-89... The best thing about them is their Linux machines are ~$125 less than the Windows ones. No MS tax and I am not associated with HP in any way but a satisfied customer. |

Don't forget the real Linux hardware vendors, like Emperor Linux, Monarch Computers, and Penguin Computing. There are lots more, and I would rather do business with a local independent or a Linux specialist than any of the big name vendors who have been in microshaft's pocket for so many years. If it weren't for collusion between hardware vendors and microsoft, m$ would not have a monopoly. Fie on Dell, Compaq, and Gateway. HP may be seeing the light, they seem to putting forth some actual Linux energy. And they do support the Linux Wireless site, http://www.hpl.hp.com/personal/Jean_Tourrilhes/Linux/, though I'd be happier if they actually supported driver development, distribution, and support in a meaningful way. |
