If -mm turns into a 2.7 tree people will start getting more adventurous again, and Linux's development pace will go from fantastic to insanely great, while the poor sods who have to gear all of this down to match mundane applications (ie the distro packagers) will still have 2.6 to rely on until the resync for 2.8 happens. |

I like Linus' idea of 2.7 potentially being a "throw away tree" That way really new bold ideas can be tested and maybe expand the cadre of developers. One would think that universities and other research institutions would welcome that. |
