Too willing to buy the cost advantages of Windows

If this guy is right, Linux only holds a significant advantage in legacy UNIX conversions to X86 boxes. Even there MS will compete and win some. Hence, significant growth must stall very soon. Where he is really off on potential market share are the smaller shops that do not have the time to pretend they are considering options. That market has to be squeezed to the maximum to make up for the major discounts MS is forced to retain market elsewhere. Some fraction will conclude there is no advantage for them to stay with Windows and the very large costs forced upon them. Imagine this: those that take the plunge have success stories (not all - smaller businesses are in for a hard time independent of computer operating systems) while a significant number staying with Windows are swamped due to excessive computer support costs. Take a mid to smaller range company that has MS bragging about staying the course with Windows only to see it sink soon afterwards. Could be a great marketing win, but not for Windows. Well that's my hope and expectation for the future. |
