A very nice distro indeed.

Now my OS of choice and one I'll be installing across the voluntary/NGO sector as and when I can.

I tried it out and thought it had a lot of promise, but I'm going to stick with Fedora Core for now (it's great with apt for rpm). If you like Debian you'll probably like Ubuntu. Regardless this is a distro to keep an eye on.

OSNews.com has two good stories about this: http://osnews.com/comment.php?news_id=8631 http://osnews.com/comment.php?news_id=8625

Ubuntu has apt, once you've fired up Synaptic and ticked the online sources and refreshed the list there are something in the region of 13,000 deb packages available. I realise this is "the other 3,4 or 5 cd's worth" that comes with the other distros by default. But, with a broadband connection it's no problem as personally, I've never installed more than about 40% of the available software when using Mandrake/Fedora/Suse. The "1 CD and the rest online" keeps the (nowgetting out of hand) pile of distro cd's a little smaller.

To clarify I do realize that Ubuntu has apt. All debian distros do as far as I know.

I agree that the 1 cd thing isn't a problem. I prefer only needing 1 cd, then just downloading any extras that weren't on that cd. The only package Ubuntu didn't have that I would have used was galeon (not even in "universe" last time I checked).
