The reporter here allowed Sybase's PR guy to confuse "free" and "gratis". However at least he published the response by MySQL and PG's developers. |

It is free as in no cost (unless I missed something). Sybase is not a bad database and I think this is great news. I have used Sybase on Solaris for about 8 years. I even installed it on Linux over 2 years ago. I also run a lot of MySQL, PostgreSQL and even Oracle on Linux. Maybe Oracle will come out with a similar deal because of this (but I doubt it). |

Perhaps you could explain this to me, Void_Main. I bought SuSE 9.1 Pro and it came with a copy of something called Sybase SQLAnywhere. I read the manual and it was rather vague as to its proper use. What is this product? |

Although I haven't used Sybase products in around 2 years they used to have a wealth of information on their web site and I am sure all the docs for SQL Anywhere should be there: http://www.sybase.com/linux/ What I used to run was their database server, at the time it was just called "Sybase 11" (version 11.x) and right after that version they changed the name to Adaptive Server if I recall correctly and appears to be what they are now giving out: http://www.sybase.com/linuxpromo/ The version they are giving out is a limited version limited to 1 processor, 2GB of RAM and 5GB of data storage but you can do quite a lot with that.
