If I am not mistaken you can develop using QT on Linux for free while you have to pay using Windows. If this is true then this press release from Trolltech is less of a surprise. Would have been strange if Windows developers using QT were in the majority. |

I certainly don't know for sure but I don't think your understanding of the license is correct. I believe you can develop using the open and free/Free version on both platforms (actually, even on Solaris and possibly others). I think where the "cost" comes in is if you want to develop a closed source application using QT. You must then purchase a version that is licensed under a different license. I believe you would also be entitled to other things. Someone feel free to correct my understanding of it. My "understanding" was old. It used to be that way but they changed it in 2001 making the Windows platform version available on same terms as Linux platform http://news.kde.org/993610099/ |
