Gates grouses about schools

This article has a singularly inappropriate headline, and it merely reveals what hypocrites high-tech execs are. By their own personal actions they make working as an engineer in certain industries economically and personally unrewarding, then they ponder publicly why youths don't enter programs leading to engineering work.

This article covers a speech Bill Gates gave to the Society of American Business Editors & Writers in Seattle. Apparently it covered a lot of ground, and C|Net chose to emphasize the fact that Gates wants more US youths to enter technical education. The situation in the USA is apparently similar to that in the Scandinavian countries, where most technical universities cannot fill all freshman openings.

Small wonder, I say. Management only understands accounting, negotiations, managing and janitorial services, so they'd rather not allow any other professions. This makes any kind of engineering or math or science into unappealing career paths.
